Washington (AP) — “Exceptional” to arm Ukraine when President Joe Biden gathered national military brass for their first face-to-face group meeting at his president’s White House on Wednesday. He praised US military officials for his work.
This is an annual tradition that was reserved for the coronavirus pandemic, but is now resurrected as the United States armed Ukraine to counter the Russian invasion.
Biden has already approved more than $ 2.6 billion in military assistance to Ukraine since Russia launched its invasion on February 24. He will announce additional security support, including cannons and ammunition, in the coming days.
“I don’t know you, but I’ve been to Ukraine many times before the war … and I knew they were tough and proud, but what do I say to you? Masu: They are tougher and more proud than I thought, “Biden told the military commander. “I’m amazed at what they’re doing with your help.”
Biden has brought together the best Pentagon civilians and uniformed officials in Europe’s most serious battles since World War II. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine nearly two months ago was the center of extensive consultation with Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, Deputy Secretary of Defense Kathleen Hicks, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and combat commanders.
Biden also used rallies to reflect his administration’s efforts to diversify the Pentagon’s leadership. Hicks is the first woman identified in the Senate and plays her role. Biden also elected General Jacqueline van Ovost of the Air Force as commander of the US Transport Army and Lieutenant General Laura Richardson of the Army as commander of the Southern Expeditionary Army. They are the second and third women in command of the combatants.
“It’s an important milestone,” Biden said. “I think it speaks to how we harness the strength and diversity of our country.”
Later on Monday, Biden and First Lady Jill Biden welcomed a military leader and his spouse for dinner at the White House Blue Room.
Such a rally was last held in October 2019. Donald Trump, then president, faced a House investigation leading to his first accusations centered on claims that he withheld military assistance from Ukraine as part of an effort to put pressure on him. The president of the country, Volodymyr Zelensky, to dig up the commerce stains of Biden’s adult son in Ukraine.
