Euro Daily News is a non-profit organization dedicated to synthesizing and integrating knowledge for scientific advancement and societal benefit.
Our articles capture the current understanding of a topic, including what is well supported and what is controversial; place the work in historical context; highlight major questions that remain unanswered and the likely course of research in the coming years; and summarize the practical applications and societal significance of the research.
Researchers want to stay current in their field and integrate this information into their activities. Researchers who want an introduction to new fields develop an interface between different research areas. Students at all levels want to gain a thorough understanding of a topic. Researchers who want an introduction to new fields develop an interface between different research areas. Researchers who want an introduction to new fields develop an interface between different research areas. Researchers who want an introduction to new fields to develop an interface; researchers, as well as business people, journalists, policymakers, practitioners, patients and patient advocates, and others who want to stay up to date on research.
“An authoritative review must give an entry into a topic’s primary literature, synthesize current knowledge in that field, and judiciously interpret that information all at the same time.” A new review must frequently cite and build upon previous reviews as information in a particular field continues to expand” (Schultz T. 2011. Preface. Annu. Rev. Entomol. 56)
“We believe there is a need for brief and accurate entrance points to anthropological studies, especially in this age of information explosion.” The condensed version. The tour is intelligently directed. However, we are looking for more than “simply a review.”
We would be negligent if the Editorial Committee did not also invite authors to describe their vision for the future of research and scholarship on each topic. What are the potential growth areas that they envision in the future? What are the promising research hotspots for the future? Where are the remaining flaws, gaps, and unknowns, for that matter? The reviews in the ARA’s pages should, in theory, take a topic and both absorb its history and help create its future. When a chapter is either completely recapitulated or exclusively personal speculation, we experience our greatest disappointments—and most frequent rejections. We want a well-balanced mix of the two, with the hybrid’s energy.” (Preface, Annu. Rev. Anthropol. 28, Durham, W.H., 1999.)
Editorial Committees comprised of acknowledged specialists in the relevant field manage Euro Daily News journals. Each Committee comprises an Editor or Co-Editors, one to three Associate Editors, five or six permanent members, and occasional Guest Members. Except for the Guest Members, all appointments are for a five-year term and are approved by the Euro Daily News Board of Directors. The Editors invite Guest Members to join for a year at their discretion.
The Editorial Committees seek highly competent authors to submit reviews on important themes, and they evaluate submitted publications for accuracy, rigour, and balance. Potential authors are chosen based on their academic reputations, academic achievements, and publishing records.
From time to time, a member of the Editorial Committee is asked to offer an invited review by another committee member. These recommendations are considered and analyzed with the same rigour and care as all other commissioned recommended reviews. They go through the same review procedure after the submission of the paper. Euro Daily News serves an international and diverse community of scholars to fulfil its objective, and the composition of its Committees and authors should represent this global community.
Given their effect on individual submissions and the overall direction of their respective journals, Editorial Committees must act with the greatest level of integrity, both individually and collectively.
Each Committee Member and Reviewer must state any factors that could be construed as sources of bias. These include, but are not limited to, leadership positions or board memberships in organizations, membership in related advocacy organizations, paid consultancies, patents pending or held, significant financial holdings in related corporations or partnerships, recent honoraria, current grants and research contracts (private sources, government-sponsored consortia/networks), and recent honoraria, current grants and research contracts (private sources, government-sponsored consortia/networks). Committee Members volunteer any potential source of bias (e.g., relationships with potential authors that are not “arm’s length” or financial interests in the review issue) throughout discussions of possible topics and authors, as well as when manuscript reviews are assigned. Such disclosures are vital for works that address important, unresolved scholarly topics because they allow for further discussion.
Each paper is examined by one or more members of the Editorial Committee and an extra expert Reviewer if more expert input is requested. Reviewers might choose to expose their names or stay anonymous to authors. The author’s name is not hidden from reviewers because they are invited. The Reviewer’s approval is required before a manuscript can be published (an Editorial Committee Member, Guest Member, or external Reviewer).
Editors, Editorial Committee Members, and Euro Daily News personnel keep all manuscripts and correspondence with authors private. Communication with the journal must likewise be treated as confidential by authors and reviewers.
For each article published in a Euro Daily News publication, reviewers are requested to evaluate the following:
Reviewers decide whether to accept the article and publish it with minor to moderate adjustments; request a large revision followed by a new review, or reject the paper; reviewers can also advise whether the author should resubmit.
The Editor(s) decide to publish if an external Reviewer is consulted or an article is suggested for rejection. If an article is rejected, the Editor(s) informs the author of the reasons for rejection and whether a substantial edit and resubmission are acceptable.
If an error is found in a published Euro Daily News piece, the author is required to rectify the material immediately or withdraw it. Members of the Editorial Committee gather and examine information in cases where the author contests the criticism before deciding what action to take.
In a fair, prompt, and thorough manner, allegations of research or publication wrongdoing are investigated by qualified people, including members of the Editorial Committee and the Editor-in-Chief and Associate Editor-in-Chief of Euro Daily News. The company’s Human Resources section investigates complaints against Euro Daily News employees.
Expert researchers are invited to submit papers to Euro Daily News. The Invited Author may collaborate on the review with one or more colleagues, but the invitation cannot be transferred; the Invited Author must be the primary author. All those who meet the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors’ four requirements (2017, p. 2) should be named as co-authors:
Euro Daily News authors are urged to follow the guidelines below to avoid accidental infringements of copyright, any appearance of plagiarism, or accidental bias in assembling bibliographies.
Others who contributed to the review tangibly but did not match all of these requirements should be acknowledged in the Acknowledgements section. The Invited Author is responsible for ensuring that everyone listed in the Acknowledgements has agreed to be acknowledged, that only those who meet the authorship criteria are listed as authors on the paper, and that all co-authors have seen and approved the final version of the paper before it is submitted for publication.
Authors must disclose any conflicts of interest that may affect or be affected by the review at the time of manuscript submission. These include any affiliations, financing, or financial holdings that could be seen as influencing the review’s objectivity.
Employment, professional affiliations, paid consultancies, membership in related advocacy organizations, board memberships, money, support, and grants received within the last three years, major financial holdings, or patents are examples of such elements. A potential bias does not imply that the work provided has been tainted, nor does it exclude writers from publication, but readers must be informed about any conflicts. An erratum will be released if a conflict of interest is detected after publication.
Each review must be a unique piece of work. The preparation of a review relies on other people’s ideas, observations, and reports. As a result, authors must be cautious when attributing and quoting other works. This caution also applies to repurposing the author’s earlier work. iThenticate is used by Euro Daily News to identify plagiarism.
Authors are responsible for explicitly identifying the source of ideas, text, photos, and other materials; seeking permission to reproduce material, including extensive quotations, when appropriate; and adhering to copyright laws.
The ICMJE recommendations for reporting research and other information published in medical journals, including reporting and reviewing human and animal studies, are endorsed by Euro Daily News. Authors who publish information or clinical images that could allow readers to identify the patient must demonstrate that they have the authorization to use or copy the content. This includes authorization from the original work’s author and publisher, as well as a written and signed agreement to publish from each patient. Authors must take all reasonable measures to maintain patient identity, whether using original content or replicating content from a primary source.
Authors should be fair but selective when choosing references—the bibliographic information (such as the date and page numbers). Only truly important papers should be included: marginally relevant citations should be avoided, and authors should avoid citing publications from predatory or pseudo-journals. Retracted publications should never be included in the bibliography; instead, the retraction notice should be acknowledged wherever retractions are discussed. It must be included in the bibliography if an erratum, correction, or editorial statement of concern has been published for reference.
The Euro Daily News Author Graphics Guide discusses digital ways for making and sending figures. Figures should be drawings or images illustrating significant points in the text or offering relevant facts concisely and cost-effectively. At Annual Reviews, a team of Illustration Editors collaborates with writers to improve figures. Before publishing, writers are emailed modified figures for approval.
Before submitting their work, authors must get permission to reuse and change figures. They should request permission to reuse numbers directly from the source publication’s publishers and only include figures for which such permission has been granted. At the end of the figure caption, credit the source of the material. The copyright holder has the option of specifying the exact wording used. Euro Daily News can assist with paying fees related to gaining approval.
Euro Daily News follows the guidelines set forth by the Journal of Cell Biology for appropriate image alteration (Rossner & Yamada 2004, p. 12):
No particular feature may be improved, concealed, relocated, removed, or introduced within an image. The arrangement of the figure (e.g., utilizing dividing lines) and the wording of the figure legend must make the grouping of photos from various regions of the same gel or different gels, fields, or exposures apparent. Brightness, contrast, and colour balance adjustments are permissible if applied to the entire image and do not obscure or delete any information in the original. Changes to the gamma settings, for example, must be communicated in the image legend.
Getting the Record Right
When an author discovers a serious error or inaccuracy in their published work, it is the author’s responsibility to contact the Editor and Associate Editor-in-Chief as soon as possible and collaborate with them to correct or retract the paper.
If a third party asserts that a published work contains a serious error, the author must either fix or remove the document or prove that the material is correct.
Copyright Under US copyright law, Euro Daily News must secure an unambiguous transfer of all rights necessary for the orderly publication of its journals in print and online from each author. As a result, we require each author to sign a declaration granting Annual Reviews full and exclusive rights to their piece, including any tables and images. Don’t hesitate to get in touch with your Production Editor for further instructions if co-authors are US federal employees, British Commonwealth employees, or require a different copyright arrangement due to their connection or financing.
