Sturgeon casts doubt on Ross’s ability to “confront” the government
The first minister, Nicola Sturgeon, questioned Scottish Tory leader Doug Ross’s attempt to confront the prime minister after supporting sending asylum seekers to Rwanda.
Home Secretary Priti Patel signed an agreement with African countries on Thursday, claiming that the asylum system “has collapsed under the combination of a real humanitarian crisis and the smuggling of evil people.”
Ross spoke with PA news agency on Friday, saying the policy would help thwart traffickers.
However, Nicola Sturgeon hit the support of Tory leaders and told journalists: I think it was completely shattered by him.
“If he can’t stand up and even oppose such a nasty policy, I don’t know what he can do for Boris Johnson and the British government.”
